Ladies, Golf Needs You
Read a really greater article today by By Peter Finch of Golf Digest Follow: @Peter_Finch exposing the stereotypical reaction of men to women on the golf course. The article, titled Golf and Women: Woman Undercover, details the adventures of Mr. Finch and LPGA Tour player Kim Hall as they set up 5 different courses to guage the reaction of the staff and male players to the woman golfer characters Ms. Hall portrays. Although a very small sampling, and somewhat contrived, this exercise sheds light on typical reactions I have heard time after time from my golfing brethren when finding out they are paired with or slotted behind a female golfer.
Listen up boys (term used intentionally), the great game of golf has been under severe pressures as of late. Revenues and rounds played have been on the decline or stagnant at best the past few years. Golf related businesses have been challenged, to say the least, to keep their operations afloat and still provide the level of service we all expect. Golf needs ALL OF US; beginners, golf addicts, young, old, leisure, business, competitive and especially women golfers. If the game is going to start growing again the way it should, every man should commit themselves to being a golf ambassador and welcoming the opportunity to play with anyone, anywhere. You never know, SHE just might a great player you can learn a thing or two from on the course.
At Caddie Club, we pride ourselves in supporting womens golf through First Tee programs, hiring ladies as golf caddies, and partnering with organizations like the Executive Womens Golf Association. As a caddie, I request groups with ladies whenever possible. Women tend to be much more fun loving and even tempered on the course, and quite frankly they usually appreciate my service more and tip better than men.
So my golfing brethren, I hope you will read Mr. Finch’s article and take a few of the examples to heart. Let’s all work together to grow the greatest game by reaching out to the women out there who love the game as much as we do.
See You On The Course!
